Folic acid... Importance to pregnancy

Folic Acid is also known as Vitamin B12 or folate is important to your pregnancy and even before you are trying to conceive.

The reasons why we need to take folic acid:

  • It helps in developing healthy cells to our growing little buddy and to our body as well.
  • It reduces the risk of birth defects such as neural tube defects (NTDs), heart and limb defects, urinary tract anomalies, narrowing of the lower stomach valve, and oral facial clefts (like cleft lip and cleft palate).

Most doctor recommend this vitamins when we have our first check up to them.
Personally, When I first knew I was pregnant through a PT (Pregnancy Test) I bought over the counter folic acid even before my 1st check up.

However, there are foods that are good source of folic acid:
  • spinach
  • asparagus
  • broccoli
  • peas
  • corn
  • oranges
  • dark green leafy vegetables
  • papaya
  • strawberry
  • avocado
  • okra
  • celery
  • squash

Churros Recipe

Churros Recipe

One of the easiest meriendas to prepare. Best served with chocolate dip together with coffee, tea or hot chocolate. I just googled the recipe and put some twist for my kid's taste preference.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup All Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 cup butter (I used Baker's Best)
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional) I omitted it because my kids doesn't like its taste
  • lots of vegetable oil for frying

Procedure:

  • In a saucepan, combine water, salt, butter and sugar. Bring to boil.
  • Reduce heat to low and add the flour. Mix until well incorporated.
  • Remove from heat and place in a mixer using paddle attachment. (low speed)
  • Add eggs one at a time. It will look like a paste.
  • Put the mixture in a large pastry bag with large star tip or any tip you want.
  • Pipe and cut with a knife directly to the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and transfer the fried churros into a plate with paper towel.
  • You may toss it to a sugar+cinnamon mixture or just plain granulated sugar.

Serve with chocolate dip (melted chocolate + milk)

So easy! Thanks!

MY FIRST CAKE EVER!

It took me a lot of time and courage to do a decorated cake. Before it was just a passion or merely just a hobby. But lately, I realize that this passion could turn into business... Why not? I need an extra income. My following is growing and I really need it.

I started baking cookies and bread. It weren't a success. we can still eat those though.

When I Joined a group of baking enthusiasts, this made me realize that cake isn't really hard to do. Though decorating  needed much effort, I tried.

Success indeed!

This cake wasn't the first cake I made. This is the FIRST cake I sold to a friend's friend. The feedback was overwhelming! :D

This is an 8" chocolate cake with boiled icing or known as marshmallow icing in some cake shop. Just selling it for 300 pesos only. It is perfectly moist and fluffy cake. My recipe will be posted soon.

  • 1/2 tsp salt (no need to add if you are using salted butter)

Procedure:
Filling

  1. Dissolved the cornstarch in buko juice.
  2. Heat the milk and add the sugar before it boils. mix.
  3. Add the buko meat and the vanilla extract. cook for about 5 minutes
  4. Pour the buko juice-cornstarch micture and stir until thick.
  5. Turn off the heat and let it cool.

  6. Spread the flatten the 1st dough into your pie plate and pour in the filling mixture.
  7. Pour the filling mixture into the crust.
  8. Flatten the second dough and cut it into 1 inch width and length as the size of the pie. put it on the top and seal the edge. You can brush the top with eggwash.
